Temporary Rental Relief for Many Affected by the Coronavirus Pandemic
If you live in an apartment building with a federally-backed mortgage and you can't pay your rent because of the coronavirus pandemic, the CARES Act makes you safe from eviction until January 31, 2021.
- You're covered by an eviction moratorium for not paying rent. The moratorium started on March 27, 2020.
- You can’t be charged late fees or penalties for not paying rent during this time.
Help From States for Properties With Non-Federally Backed MortgagesIf the mortgage isn’t federally-insured, you may be protected by your state. Many states have their own moratoriums on evictions because of the coronavirus pandemic. Check the website of your state government or state courts to find out.
